It’s the last week of January 2021 and I’ve decided to start a Mommy blog. While Ma Maven was thought about just a few weeks ago, I figured there’s no better time than now to begin sharing my thoughts on motherhood in the 2000’s.
For me, my mom journey actually began in 2013 when I gave birth to my first son a week before my 22nd birthday. I didn’t actually have a name for a formal blog however I did journal a lot of my thoughts and struggles as a new mom. Eight years later my son has grown to call me Ma just as I call my own mom. And as a lot of us do growing up in an African American home with a mother who calls you from another room to grab something for her (i.e. a cup of juice, remote that’s right next to her, or the belt for being too loud.)
I am excited to share my experiences as a mommy of 3 with you all! I was inspired to begin this blog for two main reasons.
First, I’m always amazed by someone else’s perspective and I thought, “why not have something to look back on and share my own?”. The old challenges of being a single mom of one to the most recent hurdles of now being a married mother of 3.
Ma Maven is about a mother who has had to be an expert mommy from the day she gave birth to her precious one-of-a-kind bundle of joy. It is important to me that the feel of this blog reflects that. No, I am not saying that I am a mom who knows it all. But what I am saying is that society has always expected us to be a maven in this category despite the lack of preparation. Us being the nurturers that we are there is no doubt that we will do what is necessary to show up for our babies. No questions asked.
Second, and more importantly, I want this blog to deliver a real experience of motherhood to you, the readers. If you are a Ma, Auntie, Mama, Mommy, etc., yourself you know the day-to-day struggles of mother. I’m just here to validate them for you.
I hope you look forward to these blog posts, please consider sharing, and commenting your thoughts! It helps others discover my blog and your comments will make my day 🙂
